Here to inquire specifically about ADHD and working (please note I am not yet diagnosed). Does anyone else job hop due to boredom (to the point where staying feels unbearable), miss a lot of work due to mental exhaustion and burnout (I faked a fever today because I reached a breaking point mentally, and of course am now feeling the guilt of that), and just overall find working ANY job REALLY difficult? I am struggling with this a lot right now and I'm not sure if this is something those with a diagnosis can relate to, or if I should look into other possible explanations. Thank you

Work feeling impossible?
Characteristics sounds very familiar but make yourself think you have a disability because you want it so bad and get it. It’s not great. Go see a cognitive behavioral therapist and let a license doctor diagnose you
That's the plan! I'm trying really hard not to self-diagnose, but it's so difficult not to get excited when I've had so many ADHD related issues throughout my life that it would explain and validate (this just being the most recent). The diagnosis process has been so long and tedious and I've had several counselors tell me that they believe it to be ADHD, but did not have the authority to diagnose, and actual testing can be very expensive and not accessible to everyone. But fingers crossed I can get evaluated soon. Thank you for your input!
This is fixing and advice giving and is generally not a good idea because it usually never applies but, I will risk it.
Your behavior at jobs is exactly the trait one needs to go into business for themselves. Note, there are ten really good reasons NOT to go into business for yourself but one of them is _it is NEVER boring_.
It’s possible that you are bored because your brain needs hard work, challenging work. I don’t know where you are at but the world is yearning for people who will take on challenging jobs. You might look at your self as being gifted.
Definitely get evaluated. Take two or three free online ADHD tests first. I did and passed every one with flying colors. Finally a test I aced over and over again!
If you have a version of ADHD (and there are many expressions of it) definitely figure out the right medication. Don’t worry about taking it.
Your may be on the verge of a wonderful discovery.
Great advice!. I couldn't have said it better.
starbloom425, it's definitely a good idea to get tested by a clinician and in the mean time try some of the free on line testing suggested by Alan0127. I do want to say that I've definitely had that experience of job hopping or being "invited to leave" because of conclusions drawn due to way my (ADHD characteristics) were perceived. You're not alone. It can be painfully excruciating in a way most people can't understand. It took me many years to realize that I was much better off going into business for myself or freelancing. Teleworking also gives me the option to create an environment and pace that works for me. It took many years to learn not to internalize other people's perceptions of me or my work ethic and I'm still working on it. As was alluded to by Alan0127 (dude you're on a roll today) I can have come to look at this as a gift, my own personal superpower even. While I don't fit into any of the typical "boxes", I definitely am capable of things that most aren't and bring a lot to the table. Get professional help finding out if and where you fall in this ADHD thing but in any case embrace your difference and find your niche.
I used to change jobs every five years. I got bored and wanted another challenge. A great way to get promotions, by the way. ADHDers get bored after they accomplish a challenging task, you might want to select a different field of work. Hugs 🤗
