I think getting good sleep is important. But, it's also important to prepare for the times in the day when the medication wears off. I take Vyvanse as well and notice that it wears off at around the end of my work day. When that happens, I experience a recurrence of my ADHD symptoms and tend to have more difficulty with tasks and activities in the evening. I've had to revert back to coping skills that I used in the past prior to having the diagnosis or medication.
For me, I do the following:
- Set aside some downtime either on the drive home or when I first get home to calm my mind and prepare for the transition home
- When possible, try to be active to help burn off energy and give my mind a focus boost
- Try to take care of important tasks first, such as litter boxes, getting clothes ready for the next day, preparing coffee for the morning
- Start winding down for bed at least an hour or hour and a half before I plan to sleep, meaning cutting down on stimulation, screen time, and food
I have trouble maintaining focus in conversations at night, so I will sometimes tell people that when we're talking. I also try to make sure to recharge myself on days when I'm not around people so that I have the energy to force myself to be present during those interactions.
I'm not sure if any of that will work for you or not. It's always a work in progress for me. I think it's been important for me to remember to go back to skills and strategies that were helpful before. When I first got on medication I stopped doing a lot of those things.
the routine helps a lot. I find I make really bad choices when I'm not sleeping well and/or when I'm overtired. I think that the vyvanse wears off at the time of day that we get tired so I reckon its a bit of both...
I’m working on a routine now. I’ve got the main thing down which is when I work and that’s after I wake up I need to go to work. That will take up most of my day and leave me with not much else I can get done after. I think what gets me in trouble is when I choose not to work first thing in the morning, I find myself never getting to work and I think Thant because possibly like you said medication is wearing off and I’m getting tired.
