Talk to dr about increase dose

I am currently taking Vyvanse 40mg for my ADHD. I have been on that dose for only 2 months. Before I was on concerta but didn’t work for me so my dr changed it to Vyvanse 30 mg for a month but I told him after it wasn’t as affective so we bumped it up to 40 mg. It works great for the first 6 hours but I am nervous to talk to my dr again to see if we can increase it or take another dose in the afternoons. When i asked him to increase the vyvanse before he just said “we have to use minimal medication” any suggestions would be appreciated on how I can handle this.

I was prescribed concerta before vyvanse as well but had terrible side effects. I’ve now been on vyvanse for almost 3 years. I have been on 50mg, it worked great for a long time, I thought I had finally found something that worked with minimal side effects. Within the last few months I found that it has slowly stopped being effective and I found myself to be extremely exhausted most of the time. I was nervous to bring this up to my doctor as well and put it off for a long time. I have just been bumped up to 60mg. My doctor said that as your brain changes and matures that it is very common to have to increase the dose. I think that it is very important to be open with your doctor to find the best possible dosage for you.

I am currently on Vyvanse 60mg for ADHD but moreso for helping with my binge eating. Started at 30, increased to 40mg after one month, then to 60mg after another month. I found that it wears off in the early afternoon no matter what dose I was taking. I take it around 8am-ish and do great during the day. But by about 3pm, I find myself "hunting" for food, even though I'm not the slightest bit hungry. My doc suggested adding a small dose of Adderall (5-10mg) in the afternoon to help carry the Vyvanse further into the day, but we haven't done that yet. I'm nervous about taking 2 stimulants.

Like boymom00 said about taking a second stimulant my dr. Suggested the same should I need it. I have found that drinking coffee does it for me. As long as I take Vyvanse (currently on 30mg) in the morning if I feel it wearing off slightly I’ll have an early afternoon coffee. I didn’t drink any caffeine for 20+ years so it effects me just the way I need. If caffeine does nothing for you ask your dr about taking a small dose of a second stimulant. I cycled through about 6 different meds (I got terrible side effects from most) but ultimately landed back on Vyvanse cause it works for me. It’s ok to worry about the long term effects of stimulants but the trade off of being able to concentrate and live a productive life is one only you as your dr can make. Don’t be afraid to talk to your dr and if there’s a reason you don’t like your current dr find a new one.
