hey, there my name is Kiana! ive recently been diagnosed with ADHD(inattentive) and I was hoping to get some advice. its been a difficult journey as a Caribbean woman to learn about my ADHD and convincing my family that my condition is real. I want to seek treatment and medication for myself but still financially rely on my parents while im in school! I have recently taken Ritalin and im shocked by how quickly its improved my life. I get so emotional thinking about it. But paying ~$200 a month has created such a burden for me and sparked hostility and resentment from my parents. I live in Philly, im a temple student, I use Rx coupons, I have Aetna. this is all so new to me esp learning about how insurance works. but how can I lower my expenses so that I may afford them alone? or how can I make a case to Aetna to cover my prescription? Is there a way I can get free medication? id love to hear stories, words of support or some advice/ideas. thank you

Kiana, thanks for posting to this board and sorry for all your difficulty. The US healthcare system is not user-friendly and I don't participate in it if at all possible, that includes going to the doctor to get a prescription, etc. I might get a flu shot or something like that when needed, but I have no coverage with a group or plan by choice.
Can someone give Kiana more information on how to navigate the US healthcare system to get her meds or lower her costs, etc ?
Giving the amount of time that has passed since your initial post, give us an update on how you're feeling, please.
