Why can't I work out?

Hi everyone! I was just diagnosed with ADHD with OCD features about two weeks ago. When I tell friends and family they all say the same thing, "Yeah, that explains a lot." I didn't realize I was exhibiting the signs/symptoms until I got the diagnoses. It explains more than a lot. haha Anyway...I can't seem to work out at all! I get so bored and I always find something else to do. When I do work out I feel great! I love it! But getting that first step and sticking with it is almost impossible for me. When I try to explain how I feel to people they think I'm just not motivated but we all know motivation isn't usually the problem. What do I do? I saw someone made a morning ritual checklist which is a great idea but I also saw next to "Treadmill" in her morning routine she put the word "optional." If I said it was optional I'd never do it. Any suggestions???

Just do a partial workout. Don't try to get back on the whole program all at once - it's counterproductive. Commit to STARTING and the finishing will come along just fine. Don't "should" yourself into it. Focus on making it fun and EASY instead of the usual reasons we list in our head. I'm sure others have even better ideas. Also, I found that I do the best when I have a partner - then it was a more positive experience and we kept each other going.

Thank you! My doctor suggested I start small as well, but...you know how that goes. I don't want to start small! I want to dive in! I want to work out every day at a certain time! (Stamping my feet and pouting haha) My doctor suggested when I get out of bed in the morning I should do five push ups, that's it, just five. I can't even do that. I can physically do it but I can't do it, you know? A partner might be the way to go. Thank you for the suggestion! I love to run so maybe finding someone who lives near me to come get me in the morning would help. I'd be embarrassed to not be ready when they come to get me. Thanks for getting back to me!

Ugh. Me too. There's always an excuse, always time, I mean I could be doing it now instead of digging through this website. LOL But I'm like you, starting small doesn't appeal to me, I wanna be like HEY I WORKOUT. But then I think about going for a walk or something and I. Just. Can't. I want to run. I downloaded a 5K training app a few weeks ago, haven't even opened it. I need a partner too. If you're in Alabama maybe..... ;)
