I would not expect everything to be perfect and put so many expectations on the holidays. Be thankful for regular things and for visiting family and friends. If you're able to splurge, then that's fine for you to enjoy it, but if not, then make the most with what you can afford. Think outside the box when necessary and enjoy this season.
I live in the UK so Thanksgiving isn't something I have organise and for that I am thankful! For Christmas, I try to keep everything low key and as relaxed as possible, that way there is less that can go wrong! I try to wrap the presents earlier these days, which is easier now my kids are older, and eat ready made party food. Some of it has to be warmed up before eating and once it's all prepared, which doesn't take up half the day like a roast would, I put it on big plates on the dinner table and we help ourselves throughout the day. I have to keep some kind of basic routine for my eldest daughter, who is on the autism spectrum and doesn't cope well with change. We don't go anywhere and nobody visits us, keeping it simple works for us.
