Diagnosed last week...how do I connect with others/support?

I was diagnosed last week (I realized I was a likely candidate for ADHD after my son was diagnosed in December!) and am feeling overwhelmed by trying medication and moving forward. I am also feeling quite isolated. When I search for others in a similar boat in the Seattle area, I'm not coming up with much...I was told by my medical practitioner not to seek therapy for ADHD until my medication is sorted out...is this the advice you also received?

Hi CJM, I was just diagnosed a few days ago and my neuropsychologist (who also happens to be the only doctor in SWFL that I respect. She's amazing!!! all other doctors are a trainwreck here ) didn't bat an eye when I said that I've been connecting with people in support groups. She actually said, "Ok, that's good to find a support system externally, too, if you don't have family down here and such."
