Hi Everyone! I have ADHD and was probably untreated for many years of my adult life. I've been in 10 car accidents which I heard was a major cause of death for people with ADHD. Lucky for me they were all fender benders and I and no one else were hurt. I started ADHD treatment about 4 years ago. My Psychiatrist at that time put me on Concerta. She left the practice, and I saw a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who put me on Vyvanse. Both of those medicines did not agree with my body. I got irritable, sounded buzzy to others although I didn't feel that way. I switched to Modafinil on March 4, 2025 and it's been an extremely positive change! I feel more relaxed but able to focus. I'm not irritable like I was on the other medications. I'm glad to be a part of this Womens ADHD group.

I’ve never heard of modafinil. Is it w stimulant or non stimulant? Stimulants can make us buzzy as you called it. They really affected my anxiety and made things worse for me. I’m on non syimylant stratera now, and it’s been a godsend.

It is a stimulant. While similar to stimulants like amphetamine and methylphenidate, brand name Provigil Generic modafinil has a different chemical structure. Provigil belongs to the drug class called CNS stimulants. Provigil is classified as a Schedule IV (4) controlled substance due to its potential for misuse and dependence. It is originally used for people with narcolepsy, but is used off label for ADHD. It agrees with my particular body & I have no troubles with it.

Modafinil is cheaper in cost to stronger stimulants like Vyvanse. Vyvanse is not good for you if you already have heart problems. Vyvanse is is a Class B controlled substance and a Schedule II controlled substance in the United States due to misuse & dependence.

I'm glad Stratera is working great for you. Although Stratera is a non stimulant, it can raise your blood pressure too. If I was on Stratera I would check my blood pressure. I guess it depends on your body. 😊

I have low blood pressure. My depressant meds and anxiety meds made my blood pressure so low I was feinting. I’m on a med to raise my blood pressure. Stratera is a mild stimulant, but not enough to be considered a stimulant. Thank you for teaching me about this med because if the other meds don’t work for my kid, there are other options.
