I have been looking into working with a child Psychiatrist and the local one offers TMS. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation seems to be mostly used for depression but helps with mood and emotions - which my son really struggles with.
I just wanted to see if anyone here has done it or heard of it.
Thanks!

my understanding is the science does not yet back it up ( which only means there is not enough evidence to make conclusions about it yet). Some people seem to get benefits from it, but they are typically short lived/do not last. It is expensive and not covered by insurance.
Thank you! I've tried to research it but haven't seen much about it. I would imagine if it had great success I'd be able to find out more. Maybe it's just new and there isn't much data available yet? I appreciate your reply!!
I did a course of it 5 years ago for a bout of depression. It didn't help me. I was very hopeful that it would, but, ultimately, it was disappointing. I suppose it must help some; I remember they told me it helps 40% of the people they worked with.
For me, it was worth a try after several medications didn't help. I see it being offered in more and more places today. I wouldn't consider it for my daughter, who also struggles with mood and emotions. It's not painful, but my daughter is a sensory avoider, and I can imagine the thumping sensation and noise would be intolerable for her.
Thank you so much for the feedback!! I really appreciate it! I don't think my son would tolerate it well and probably not worth the cost and stress it would cause.
I agree with you. Also, while reading your last comment, I remembered that the treatment involved multiple visits over the course of a few weeks. It's hard to schedule if you're in school or working.
