I don’t know about sleep away but I was just looking at camp riverbend for next year. Lots of activities and a full day.

I have heard great things about Camp Summit in PA. A friend sent her daughter there and she had an amazing summer. She returned again this summer. We met when our daughters both attended a sleep away camp in NH. That camp introduced a lot of trauma for our daughters, so definitely look out for type and level of supervision of campers. I thought I had, but apparently not enough. If the camps are run more often by interns than by seasoned staff, then I think it is more Lord of the Flies than a structured, supportive camp for children with ADHD and other MH issues.

If your son is into the outdoors, VT Fish and Wildlife has an overnight camp that my son has attended for the past three Summers a week at a time. It's called Conservation Camp. I know there are children from several states who attend. It's geared toward hunting, fishing, boating and hiking skills.

Camp Sequoia in PA! It’s specifically for boys with ADHD (they have a sister camp for girls). There are more counselors per camper than a standard camp and they’re all trained to work with ADHD kids. My son just spent a great three weeks there, after have a hard time at a different camp last summer.

What age did he do? Sounds like it was a success. This sounds like exactly what my son needs at the right age. He’s 6 now.

What age did you do this? It’s exactly what I think my son needs but he’s only 6. I know they start at 7 but wondering if that’s too young for something like this.

We started at age 8 at the other camp. He was fine with being away from home (although it helped that his older sister was also there), but the camp itself didn’t have enough help for the younger kids. As I said, though, Camp Sequoia was great for him and they can go for 3 or 6 weeks.
