hi everyone! I have a 12 year old boy recently diagnosed with ADHD. Would have loved an earlier diagnoses but his father was in denial. Currently we are trying vyvanse and hoping with the right dose things may “settle” (whatever that means for us eh!) He’s addicted to video games and trying to get him to do anything without yelling is a chore . And even then if I yell he shuts down and still nothing gets done. I’ve tried all the reward systems but seems nothing truly works for very long. Just a frustrated mom looking for support at the end of the day! Anyone have issues with not wanting to go to school? He hates his teacher and how she teaches so dragging out of the car seems to be a thing

Thank you for joining the group. We are here to support you and welcome you, we are glad you found us.

Our son is 17 years old and off to college in August, so we now just have older kid issues.

Our son also hated school, but what he learned was that if he attends school and maintains a certain GPA he can play sports. That was our carrot.

The one thing that really helped us was finding a Hobbie outside of school and allowing our son to have that balance.

We also never took that away no matter how bad school/life got.

Could you find something ( besides electronics) that he loves? Our son loved chess, so we allowed him to join a chess club at school and we connected him with an electronic chess club so he could compete with other kids his age. This really.. really helped him.

Also, I hope you find medication that helps, our son needed a stimulant and non-strimulant to be successful.

Best of luck! Again welcome.

did you try therapy session as a routine check up every week ? Once a week? Slowly but surely the rock can be broken with a small drops of water but consistent ones
