Hello I'm new!!?
First of all welcome! You’re in the right place for some help. What specific circumstances do you need help with? There’s lots of parents here who have anxiety too. If you tell us more, I’m sure someone could give you good advice.
Welcome to the journey of raising a child with ADHD. It could help you a lot to read older posts that can help you with your struggles. There are many posts that explain children like your son do best when given tools such as an educational plan (504 or IEP), medication and thwarts. We are always here for you, hope you find the supports both you and your son need.
The 504 plan is a Federal law..What helped me was to bring a letter from my son's psycharisit that stated what he needed. Any time there was an issue ( our son got in trouble for eating a protein snack bar from home in the pe locker area) his doctor wrote a note that he is allowed to have these types of nutrients snacks anytime during the day. This was written into his plan. The school stopped their antics!
By it being a Federal law it is much larger than anyone school.
I quickly realized, I needed to give our son more tools to deal with what was happening to him ( not being able to cope with the stress). I could go on and on about how bad middle school was. But we survived and now our son is on him way to college and he is going to play sports at a high level. I say this to help you just get through these tough times.
Can you find a hobby ( sports, arts, cooking, volunteering, etc..) something outside of school to help balance life?
Our son hates school.. but as soon as he got excited about a career choice (collecting crime scene evidence) wow he is lazer focused on this path.
I just want to give you a big hug and let you know you guys will get through this...
Have a great day
Hello to you! I am also pretty new here and our son was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I know how it feels being a mom of a boy with ADHD. Very lonely and frustrating. Especially not knowing what to do to help our child and feeling overwhelmed. I have anxiety too! And there are many days where his episodes feel like more than I can handle. He reacts, then I react, and it becomes a snowball effect! I'm happy you found this community. It has helped me find some great resources from parents who have or are going through many of the things we are. For one example, we had major issues with clothing for school every morning, and many parents said they dress their ADHD child at night. WOAH that was a game changer! And communication issues my boy is having that I wasn't sure was connected with his diagnoses, but other parents said their child had done those same things. I hope you find some reassurance and help here as I have. I found that if I asked specific questions many many parents were here to help with advice or things that have worked for them!
