Supportive Boarding Schools

Hello all,

I wonder if you could help us. Our 15-year-old son has recently been diagnosed as twice exceptional. He has ADHD, dyslexia, and significant dysgraphia. He attended a small private school for elementary and middle school, and the transition to a large public high school is not going well. He has a 504, and we are working on getting an IEP. He is frustrated, irritable and not enjoying school. We feel that even with the IEP, a large public high school might not be the best fit for him. He is struggling with executive function skills at home as well.

We think that boarding school might be a good way to provide round-the-clock support for academic, social, and executive function skills with the structure to help him manage impulsivity. He is a bright, creative guy who is interested in art (painting and sculpture) and tech (RC cars and robotics). We are flexible regarding location.

We are looking for a safe supportive ADHD boarding school which can address his learning differences and executive function skills. If anyone has experience with a great high school program that they would recommend, we would appreciate the information.

Thank you!

Did you ever find one? I just replied to another post about some good boarding school options, including Darrow in MA, The Leelanau School in Michigan, and Hyde in Maine. If you found one, please let us know! Always looking to compile good resources for these kids!
