I have a 3 year old I’m getting a diagnosis for right now and once he gets the diagnosis I want to start him on medication. His behavior is out of control and I really can’t take it much longer.
How old was your child when they were... - CHADD's ADHD Pare...
How old was your child when they were officially diagnosed. Also did you start medication right away and did it work?
Welcome to the group.
I strongly encourage you to have him seen by a child psychiatrist so they can help you deal with medication and support the both of you.
I do not feel any age is to young for help.
We have been told that medication can help 60% of behavior and the rest of the issues need to be worked on by behavior interventions, educational plan ( yes, even on preschool) and medication.
It will be helpful in many ways to give your child the tools he needs. Take care
I have a 15 and 17 year old grandson and neither of them have official diagnosis yet besides ADHD symptoms. Both started having issues at Age 3 but we never started medication until kindergarten. The oldest one the medication started to work right from the get-go. The younger one it's been a struggle for 10 years to get the right combo. Psychiatrist just added a new medication for him. Praying this stabilizes him
There are studies coming out saying medicating at a younger age can help children develop a normal brain chemistry later in life. However, I don't think they were talking about medicating as young as 3. I do sympathize with you. We have a 2 year old that is hell. Just absolute hell. Hyperactive to a T and violently unable to regulate her emotions, which already are off because she's 2. You aren't alone. I don't know if they'll give you medication for a child that young but I do encourage you to look into the studies being done. I believe a lot of them are coming out of the University of Colorado. Good luck!
