My son is almost 4 and has a new diagnosis of ADHD with a speech sound disorder. We are beginning behavioral therapy and would like to try other complementary treatment options prior to considering medications. Does anyone have recommendations for getting started with a 3 year old friendly ADHD diet? Thanks in advance!

I am in the same boat! I’m m new to this discussion board but would like to privately chat with you and let you know how I am handling my four year old (long story about the medication) I have cut out quite a bit of the sugar and I do give him natural supplements. He does play therapy as well. Like I said, a long story as to why I am choosing not to medicate at this time. Good luck to you and hang in there!
We have to medicate my son for school, however, we did have some initial success with the Feingold diet. It removes all artificial dyes and preservatives along with fruits and vegetables high in salicylates. I would definitely recommend removing all artificial dyes to begin with. My son responds badly to Red Dye #40. Magnesium, zinc, and Barlean’s liquid DHA/EPA also helps (tastes very good).
I recently heard of a book called "Gut and Psychology Syndrome." I havent read it though.
My son's doctor has him on the Blood Type Diet. We've been doing it for about 2 months. I haven't really noticed a difference.
Another book I read is "Medical Medium" that book has some dietary instructions that seem helpful as well.
