I am hoping to get some advice. I have 3 children two girls and a boy. My son, the youngest, has ADHD. I only had him checked for ADHD because up until then so many people kept saying how different boys are and I’m not used to it. Things have gotten worse. He won’t take his medicine at all and now that school is all virtual and I work he plays on the computer all day, not turning in his work. I’m getting emails daily from his school. He has an 504 plan but does good in school. His school will not allow him to come 4 days a week, they said it’s for children with disabilities. Today I found out my son told me he did all his homework that was due last night wasn’t. This is daily .. he’s always saying yes he turned it in but it isn’t being done. Sometimes he shows me it says turned in but maybe only half done. We got into a full blown argument and I feel so guilty yelling but I am tired of the emails daily and he doesn’t seem to want to help only play on his computer gaming. Any advice? I really am going crazy and feel extremely guilty for yelling all the time. I only want him to succeed. He really is so smart when he tries. Teachers comment about him participating greatly in class. Thank you!

How old is he? There are several reports about how kids with disabilities are falling behind. My freshman grandson is also not doing his work online and is probably going to repeat the grade. Taking medication around here is a given. We have some balking but no refusals.

ADHD is a disability. You need to get a statement from your doctor and fight the school on this. Go higher up if need be.

I'd push back and take it to the Super Intendent, the school board, etc. He has a learning disability and they have got to stop being ridiculous and get ALL these kids back in school. He needs the structure, the lack of distractions from the luxuries of home, etc. This whole thing is getting beyond rediculous.

All these kids, even the NT ones are going to be a year behind.

See Pax Tools for parents on You Tube for things that work with all kids. Here are a couple links:

Good luck and see what others do to help with taking medication. Rewards work better than punishment. Use free computer time as a reward. IF your homework is done in 15 minutes, you get an hour of free time. Example only, don't give too much of a reward at once. If you take your medication, you get 15 minutes up later. Find what he likes and use it as a reward, Add things like going for walk with you. Physical activities as rewards are better for health and letting off energy than computer rewards. Google Pax GBG for more ideas.
