Hi fellow Moms on a mission : ) Has anyone out there had experience with the Daytrana patch? How long did you use it? My daughter won't swallow pills and our health coverage doesn't cover liquid medicine. She's 12, very petite and concerned the weight loss isn't good for her. She doesn't sleep well already and it sounds like all of these meds cause insomnia. Ugh!

Daytrana patch
I am sorry I have not heard of this patch.
Have you tried other supports to get her to take the pills? Like thearpy? Using candy M&M's or tic tacs? Rewards?
There are many options to put the pill in: whip cream, applesauce, pudding, etc..
This is a life long skill that can really benefit her in the long run.
If you need to you can consult an Occupational Therapist to help you with techniques to get her to swallow pills.
Good luck in tackling this issue.
Good morning!
Yes, both of my sons are on it. My youngest (7) who's on the 10mg , and my oldest son (11) who's on 15mg. We decided to go with the patches since neither of them like taking pills. This is a fast relief method of meds. They both get it put on before they go to school, and taken off after school, So about 8 hours of the patch being on. Yes, it subsides their appetite but not drastically. So depending on what kind of day they're having they might not eat their snack at school, But they will definitely be hungry when they get home. And yes, some of the side effects are insomnia, and we have experienced that. We ended up getting melatonin gummies (Zarbees -sleep with melatonin) which are excellent, and they take every night and helps them immensely! Also one of the side effects is, having a red patch/rash one removing the patch. It's pretty much like removing a sticker that leaves a little residue. But it goes away after a little bit. Just remember to switch off hips that it doesn't irritate the skin when you keep putting it on the same spot. We decided to go with this route (besides the peltic and part) due to the issues in schoo,l and not so much issues at home.
It works and gives the option of how long you want the medication effect. Also, if you have concerns about the dosing, you can even cut the patches in half (the medicine does not leak out). Feedback from other parents has usually been positive. Just make sure you follow the instructions for the patch application. If the skin itches after the patch is removed, olive oil is soothing.
I used these myself. You place the patch on the hip, as others have said. They work pretty well. Two issues: one, if removed they will not re-adhere. I did not try to restick by taping the patch on with medical tape or anything. It’s worth a try if you’ll need to remove and reapply. And two: at least in my case, if my body overheated, I got a meds spike. I avoided exercise with the patch on, and dressed in layers so I could always cool down.
We tried it but it was not as beneficial as the liquid or pill form and we did deal with some rashes.
Thanks to all of you for sharing. We’re giving it a try. Have a great day!
