I would like to hear about experiences of teen taking both anxiety and ADHD meds together. Specifically, my 16 year old son has been taking Paxil for about 8 months which has helped with anxiety. However, he was diagnosed with ADHD Inattentive type and Executive Functioning Skills disorder this summer after his grades fell substantially in first year of high school. Psychiatrist prescribed low dose Focalin last week but also stay on the Paxil. We will start the Focalin tomorrow. I’m nervous! I know that all of the available meds affect people differently but hoping for some tips and positive outcomes? Thank you in advance!!

The combination of an anxiety medication and a stimulant medication is commonly done. There is a chance that the stimulant may aggravate the anxiety but that would be obvious and is totally reversible. Your psychiatrist is making a good choice with a low dose of the Focalin. Try it.
