I read a book out loud with my child, even though he's a teenager. During the school year, there's little time for that and he'll never choose to read for enjoyment on his own. But this way, he experiences reading a fun book we pick out together, he gets time with a parent that's not stressful, we analyze things in the book and talk about feelings, and I even work in time for him to read to me to help make sure that skill doesn't slip.

Wonderful idea. I will see if my 17yr old would be up for reading together again.
