It looks similar to TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) unit. In fact they are calling it eTNS(trigeminal Nerve Stimulation System) so I would say it is very similar. I use TENS at my physical therapy appointment for my shoulder and migraines. I do dry needling too which is where they but very thin needls at trigger points to get my muscles to relax. Lately, my PT has been attaching the TENS on the needles while they are in my shoulder, neck, and lower head area.

It does not hurt. Just a small to large tingle sensation depending on how high I can tolerate. People with sensory issues may be bothered by it. I am more concerned that this is a home unit with only one very small study (how did it get FDA approval so easily?). I would prefer that a treatment like that be used in a professional setting. Even though I can buy a TENS unit for home fairly cheaply, I trust that my PT experience can give me a better outcome.

I would not consider it shock therapy. I grew up on a farm and have been shocked by electric fences a few times(too many!) and the TENS is definitely not the same sensation! I will ask my PT about this at my next appointment in a few weeks. He has ADHD kids as well so he might offer some good insight.

Thanks for sharing!

I have one of these and used it on my 9 year old son. It helped with his emotional regulation but not really with the ADHD. Glad to know it’s FDA approved now!
