School working against my child with Adhd

My step son is now 8yo and was diagnosed ADHD at 5, and dyslexic just this year. We do not currently medicate due to horrible side effects he suffered during 3 different medications. He has an IEP at school and at first the school was great about working with him and even though he struggles retaining the materials he was making small progress. That all changed this year, 2nd grade for him. We are searching for an advocate or information on how we can get help to ensure he is treated fairly and not removed from school and put in a class for dangerous kids ( which is what the principal is pushing for, even though he hasn't been a danger to himself or others) he has done inappropriate things, like hiding from his teachers but never hurt anyone.

Contact your local Disability Law Rights Center. They can advise you on how to ensure your child is being treated fairly and can provide resources for you.

Mamashark3-

I really hate when families are struggling. If you have an IEP, then there are mandates that nothing (especially a child's class placement) can be changed unless the "team" decides to do this.

All children with disabilities who have IEP's have the right to FAPE ( Free and Appropriate Public Education). The only way his placement can be changed is if a psychologist assesses him and makes the recommendation to you. With that being said, where is the Special Education staff helping you? Your child has a person who writes up the IEP and is in charge of following all the details. This is the person that can help you. Not sure if they are at his school or not.

Please reach out and speak to them about what is going on, they should help you.
