Give him protein and more protein. My son struggles with his weight because of medication but we monitor it and keep emphasizing protein intake.

Our son's told him the medication he takes makes him not feel hungry but he needs to eat all meals.
We require him to eat protein at meals and we give him protein shakes and drinks when his weight dips.
It will be another thing you will have to deal with.
What protein drinks do you use?
We do a mixture nd have him make his own smoothies (frozen banana, peanut butter, ice and nutella) and these:

He likes the strawberry which are not listed. We also do mango and a second flavor ( Wal-Mart) coconut in the cold section.
Hope this helps.
We haven't had a weight issue, thankfully, but we do struggle to get him to eat his meals often. I agree that lots of protein is key for a number of reasons. Sometimes he has to eat before he is allowed to do certain things. i.e. he must eat a snack when he gets home from school before he can play with friends. Other times it is more snacking than eating big meals. Good luck!
My DD takes focalin. She is 10 and only weighs 55-60 lbs. She is on a competitive gymnastics team and has 27 hour/Wk practices. So she does burn a ton of calories. On the weekends (no gymnastic practice) we only give her one dose to help her with her appetite. We give her full fat milk, lots of protein, beef jerkey, nuts and protein bars for snacks. We also give her a protein and fat full breakfast before her medication.
Thank you for all the good ideas, I am going to push protein on him, and watch him a little closer as to what he is eating
What does your pediatrician say about his weight? My 13 year old grandson was on Focalin XR for years. Is now on Wellbutrin and intuniv. he has always been thin but his pediatrician had always said he was within weight guidelines for his age and height. His doctor always said I see so many overweight kids that it's nice to see one that isn't.
