Hello every one, I just found this site and decided to give it a try, as I am frustrated and at a loss for what to do. I have a 15 yr old who is diagnosed ADHD and Elliptic or has a history of seizures. He had the seizure diagnosis at birth as well as MRSA. The treatment for these illnesses has side effects which slow the development of children, how ever doctors are unable to say what is caused by medications and what is caused by seizures or MRSA. It took several years and failed grades to get the school to acknowledge that he needed some help or special ed. Many doctors treated and evaluated him and the school still refused to accept that he needed to be place in special education. He was finally accepted in to special ED in 2014. How ever his IEP does not recognize or acknowledge OHI, and I feel have violated the law on more than one occasion in my son's case. we have been having ARD's every 2 to four months for the last two years and have gotten no where with beneficial accommodations. the school states they were not implemented because it was written on page xx and it should have been on page yy. I disagreed at this ARD as my son failed a class in the 5th six weeks of school because the IEP was not followed. That was in April and today is June and we have yet to have another meeting to resolve the issues from that ARD. Can anyone give me some possible remedies' to my problem.

Thank you all in advance for your kind and knowledgeable input

I’m not even sure how the school thought he didn’t qualify for help!

They will cut costs anyway they can.

By MRSA, do you mean the staph infection people can get ? I know a lot of people who carry MRSA but have zero symptoms. (I am a nurse, seen a lot of MRSA carriers)

Obviously ADHD and seizure disorder should qualify as disabilities, maybe you need to get an attorney or an advocate. The school district office usually has suggestions for advocates.

My son has failed all his classes in 8th grade and he is on an IEP. They have passed him on to 9th grade anyway.

So I guess we’ll see this fall how that goes. He is very bright but he doesn’t do assignments. He can verbally answer all the questions about his classes and what was taught but he refuses to write it down. He’s quite a pain in the neck!!!

I hope that your state has an advocacy group and that you can find it easily. You also should have been given (by the SpEd office of your school) some information about your parent rights and the process you can go through if you disagree with the team decision...but in the end this is a TEAM and you and your son are primary members of it, and decisions need to be made together. Find the strongest advocate that you can and start pushing hard.

PS...what is ARD? I don't know that acronym.
