My name is Wendy Kirkpatrick. As the mother of a grown son who lived with ADHD, I began self-publishing books on Createspace.com and Amazon.com (jointly).
I do my own illustrations as well and I make a point to keep the cost of books as low as possible. My goal is to present ADD and ADHD from the perspective of the child, rather than the adult, parent or professional. I was never able to find books that presented the child's self-perceptions and views of their problems. There may be some out there, but I had no luck finding them. So I decided to write my own books.
One of my books is called "I have ADD and I'm Proud to Be Me." Another is "Nolan No Learned to Love Yes." There are a couple of other self-published books as well on the site and will continue to create more books as time goes on.
If any of you are interested in reading my books, I would love to get your feedback and perspective on the subject and how my books might help you and your children.
Sincerely, Wendy Kirkpatrick

Well done, thank you for sharing. I have Inattentive ADHD and grew up with an entire family and large group of friends with all 3 subtypes of ADHD, lots of crazy situations, characters, and just fighting to survive in a world not made for people of our condition. I am currently in grad school to become an MFT Psychologist and have studied ADHD continuously for about the last 4 years. I am currently filming a movie that entails the struggles of mostly those who have Inattentive ADHD throughout the lifespan, and will also devote a good portion to the combined and hyperactive types. There is a huge pool of undocumented issues and symptoms that I have not read in books or research reports, that I have on my own studied deeply and observed that I hope to bring to the spotlight in this film and hopefully through a book I'm working on as well. You're doing a great thing for many struggling families of this condition.
It warmed my heart to hear from you. When my son was very young, all I had were pediatricians, teachers and school psychologists who pressured us to drug our child, with no comparative study of whether or not medications were affecting his health badly, whether or not there were positive benefits academically and socially and how the medications made our son feel (doped up, tired, stomach ache, etc.). Having such a wonderful education and having personally experienced ADHD, you will bring so much help to many families. Your family must be so proud of you.
Thank you for those very kind and encouraging words.
I see so many families and individuals on here who go through all the things you mentioned. I am a strong believer and advocator to taking supplements to help with ADHD symptoms, taken either with or without stimulant medication. Stimulant medications are great help for those of us with ADHD, but many negative side effects can start popping up. This is why I advise many people I have worked with both in person and here online to give supplements a try. They greatly eliminate/diminish negative side effects, keep the brain and body safer, and help the medication work better after continued use. I made a google doc that includes all the supplements I take, why I take them, how they help people with ADHD, and where they can be purchased and for how much. There are so many options out there and so much information that, finding it in one place can really be helpful, which is why I made it. I'm not sure what type of ADHD your son has, but I made a series of videos documenting the struggles people with Inattentive ADHD go through throughout the lifespan. There are very few videos on youtube about Inattentive ADHD, and a larger number of undiagnosed Inattentive Types in my opinion from people I have worked with. If you think someone you know might have Inattentive ADHD, please share the video playlist with them. The links to the supplements and videos are both in my bio on my profile.
Thank you for the very nice reply. This is why I wrote my books and self-published on createspace.com and amazon.com under my name (above.) I could never find a book that described the child's side effects in terms of how it affects THEM and how it makes them feel. A family from Puru recommended guanabana juice (Goya brand) which was considered a natural relaxer for the ADD child with hyperactivity as well. No doctor bothered to tell us that sugar and excess carbs are poison for kids with these conditions. Vitamin supplements are great, like Vitamin B Complex. There is so much nutritional advice out there and unfortunately, the schools, the doctors and psychologists just emphasize pills. I had to fight tooth and nail for special education services for my son, even they just cared about the drugs. My foremost advice to other parents is "Don't care about whether anyone in the school district likes you or thinks you are nice, and be a BIG pain in the ass."
