If dads around have him go to the bathroom every time with dad. I did that with my first son because I heard boys are harder to train. Cheerios in the toilet help, but boys will be boys so make sure you hide the cheerios and monitor him chucking things in the toilet lol. Make sure you talk to your pediatrician as well for some tips, they may ask other questions to investigate if its potty training or other issues. Also if your child was diagnosed by a psychologist talk to them about him not wanting to go potty, I think some schools won't take the child unless they are potty trained so check with the school as well. ADHD at 5 is very controversial some Dr. believe it's too early to tell because boys are naturally curious, rambunctious and filled with energy.....and he hasn't started school yet so be a big-time observer when he does, keep a journal and write down his experiences when he starts school, you can even ask his teachers to write an observation memo so you can save it in your journal for when you need it. Just know that socioculturally in Europe children are not expected to do anything until they are ready to, I saw 5-year-olds with pacifiers ...don't let social norms force you or your child to move in any direction you are not ready too.

You got this mom!!

My younger grandson took forever to potty train. My older grandson had to wear pull-ups to bed until he was eight. Their pediatrician said there was nothing wrong with them they just needed to mature. And ADHD kids are behind in maturity. Maybe he needs to wait a year to start kindergarten. I wish we had held my younger grandson back.

We have had some success with rewards, but it isn’t perfect. We did a quarter for every time he used the potty without arguing with us, and we also tried star charts. For my guy, the quarters worked better. You could certainly use dimes instead if you are working on frequent tries.

Even though the quarters helped, my five year old also still has accidents. It’s so frustrating. He just doesn’t care about wetting his pants, or he gets too focused on something and doesn’t notice that he needs to go. It’s so hard to be patient with him. We’re still doing pull-ups at night because he doesn’t stay dry.
