Save my son
Hello. Sorry to hear things are so hard right now. I have a very similar problem. Screen addiction is quite common in kids with ADHD. My 12 year old has this problem, and we are careful to limit his time each week. Was tough at first, but has become more routine and accepted. We lock up all devices when not in use, as he tried to locate them at every turn. We work very hard to not lose our control during his outbursts, and have a found a mix of meds that has been more effectI’ve. Our patience is tested beyond belief! Hang in there, Work closely with his doctor, and maybe get yourself a therapist that specializes in parenting kids like ours. Best of luck!!
ADHD affects behavior both in and out of school. Your son will be able to transition from one activity to another much better if he takes his ADHD medication all the time. This means he will not be so focused on the video games and may be more willing to do other things. Sports, social activities, driving a car, etc are all much better when medications are on board. In addition to limiting the hours he can play video games, try giving him his meds all the time. It's also important that our kids realize that ADHD is a disorder that needs treatment all the time and that they get into the habit of taking their meds daily. We saw a huge improvement in our son's sports once we put him on an ADHD medication, and he was much more agreeable to limit-setting with video games.
