With stimulant medications I believe and my experience has been within 1hr you should see a response to the medication IF they need or that particular med is the right type. Have you seen ANY change around 1hr after taking? Stay in touch with your Psychiatrist.
My daughter hasn't used that particular one, but she tried 3 different ones and 1-2 diff doses before we ruled one out. One we ruled out after 1 day, due to bad side effects. I think at the lowest dose, if you don't notice positive change, you are more looking to see if there are obvious side effects. Even if there's no positive change, if there are no side effects you will probably try increasing the dose until you either hit side effects you can't live with or see improvement in her symptoms. With the one that finally worked for my daughter, she felt good at the lowest dose and side effects were minimal, plus it helped her focus a little. We upped the dose after a week and that really did the trick. It took another week or two for side effects to really even out and for her to reach the max benefit. Every year or so after that, we've had to increase the dose a little when it seemed that she wasn't focusing as well again. Good luck! It's so hard to be at the beginning of trying medication. Some people get super lucky and can see immediate results with the first one they try, but for most others it's a long slog of trial and error. Try to be patient and know that you'll most likely find just the right thing if you keep at it!
How old is your daughter? My grandson who took that medication was on 30 mg at one point but that was when he was in fourth grade and fifth grade.
For his younger brother that medication did nothing except make him more agitated.
Not sure how long that particular medicine took to take effect but recent ones they've been on have taken 2 or 3 weeks to really know if they're working unless there's been a really bad side effect. Even those have taken a week or so to show up
My son takes 40mg right now...5 MG did absolutely nothing....and I think the 40 is too much but when he started it showed an improvement the same day. (But he started at 30 and went up 5 at a time)
How long did you wait before you increased the dose each time?
Usually we talk 7 to 10 days after...he increased his dose again today, against my better judgment though. I am taking my son to another doctor at the end of the month for a second opinion on the medicine dosages and type. I don't think increasing the dosage makes it last longer, I think he needs an additional dose in the afternoon, not an increase in the morning.
Talk with her doctor. The dose may need further increases due to her age and weight.
