Not finding much about medication

My 10 year old was just diagnosed ADHD (predominantly inattentive type). I have tried all herbal focus products such as Concentration Essentials and Cognium. I also bought the $100 re-vibe and am not seeing results. Do want to try medication but not something that will change her personality. i don't know what is available and what works

I started reading ADHD without medication... you can find on amazon. i want to have a devil's advocate approach before considering medication. I bet you can get all sorts of info on effects of food, etc. Best to get consultation with a pediatric psychiatrist.

My daughter is nine and same as you inattentive type. I have tried two meds adderal and Ritalin. So scary and upsetting for me but i want to see if it helps her and she does need help as adhd is impacting her self esteem. I am still searching for a good med to try as both i tried had unpleasant side affects. But just an fyi. I was also concerned about changing her personality but found that interestingly the meds seemed to bring out her personality. Because she became more focused and aware her funny silly clever self really shined through and she shared so much information with me while on meds. When she is not on meds she barely tells me anything about her life and thoughts and i think it is because she is so checked out that she doesn't even know how she feels. I am still trying to find the right medication for her and maybe never will if all give her to many side effects.

It's always best to consult with your physician on medications and keep in mind that every individual is different when it comes to response to medications. What this means is that because one medication or dose of a medication didn't work, doesn't mean another won't work. We started out with adderol, for example, and saw some benefits, but felt that more could be done, so my son's doctor switched him to vyvanse, which is a long-acting medication. He did better with this, because the medication lasted longer in his system over the course of the day.

We tried EVERYTHING before beginning medication. What did help in our medication journey was having my 6 year complete a genetic test to determine the types of medications that would be best for her based on how her body metabolizes the medication. It is a simple mouth swab process. Once we had her genetic test completed and used the results, the medication journey has been much easier to identify the most effective medication for her. What has been left is to then determine the right dosage. I wish you all the best on your journey!

Your links don't work. What was the name of the web site you used to do the testing? Thank you!

Medication effectiveness varies by person. I believe a pediatric psychiatrist is optimal for med determination and management. I’ve heard there is a genetic test, which might help narrow the field to most probable best fits.

Medication is just one component of a multi-modal ADHD treatment plan.

Good luck.
