I'm new to the sight and have been reading posts - and it's awesome seeing all the great advice!
My son is 8 and was officially diagnosed last week. My brother has ADHD, so I am familiar with some of the symptoms which helped decide that was my son's issue -- I did more research and it confirmed it in my mind. So, I walked into the doctors appointment pretty sure, and his doctor was pretty sure after listening to my answers to his questions. He was just put on medication on Sat (which was a HARD decision to make!!) so we'll see if it starts helping him.
Unfortunately, my son also has oppositional behaviour, so, a therapy appointment is coming too.
It'll be great to hear about other parents tips on how to deal with some of the issues that come up.

Hi , welcome! This is a wonderful site for parents and families dealing with ADHD. My son has ADHD and ODD. I really feel like it was all so much harder before he was diagnosed . Once I understood what I was dealing with life started to move a little smoother. The Oppositional Defiance disordered can be so trying. When my son becomes defiant and begins to argue I try my best to cool his fire. I try as calmly and patiently as I can
to think about the issue and to see what alternatives we have. Things are definitely not black and white with these children! There is a lot of gray! It’s great that we have this support group to discuss and vent our issues.
Thank you Janemariekathryn! Yes, his oppositional behaviour is hard to handle most days. My husband and my son butt-heads a lot, so, I know we are eager to get some guidance on how best to handle his defiant behavior!! It's nice to hear that there is hope!!
