Taking warfarin and performing exercise is not an issue but I do not know if your medical condition would be. There are plenty of Facebook groups where people taking warfarin are regularly competing in sports such as triathlon. I have been taking warfarin for 5 years and cycle and run 3-4 times weekly. Of course you should sell your doctor's advice prior to continuation of exercise.

I agree with the previous reply

Check it out with your stroke consultant

The main issue with sports and other body challenging situations is the problem if you pull a muscle, fall over etc

But exercise is good - perhaps build it up slowly back to your pre stroke fitness?

Usually that's what they tell you to do is build up exercise slowly after you have been poorly.

I'm on Pradaxa (dabigatran) and amlodapine after a stroke in July 2016. My excellent Consultant Neurologist said that I could gradually introduce cardiovascular work. No weights, no inverted yoga poses, and no holding my breath (I used to do yogic breathing). I currently do around 35km a week on a Concept 2 rowing machine: one million metres will be passed to day. As your condition is more complicated, you need specialist advice.

I think the REASON you are on warfarin is probably what you should be asking about when it comes to exercise. I am not on warfarin, but Eliquis and I do crossfit 4-5x a week which is everything from skipping, burpees to squatting and cleans etc. I don't have any active clots, if I did I wouldn't be doing anything more than walks. Of course you have to be careful of falling or dropping weights on yourself or bruising on the meds.... Good luck. PS Swimming might be really good too if you are just looking for some activity.

I was on warfarin for 2 years. Because of cvst. I was told anything was OK apart from contact sports. In fact I was positively encouraged to exercise as much as possible... Starting with gentle bike rides/walking /swimming
