I have a scheduled perineal biopsy next Spring. My urologist uses only local anesthetic. We all experience pain differently. Please let me know your personal experience with pain during and after the procedure. 1. Did your physician prescribe hydrocodone and/or Valium in addition to the sedatives and pain meds such as midazolam and fentanyl? 2. Are the needles one-time use or not?

Pain level 3 ouf of ten for me but everyone's different had a bottle of wine after when I got home then work next day no painkillers needed.Stress level 11 out of ten beforehand got 2nd tp biopsy in one hour stress levels ok.
TP better than getting shit injected into your rectum via TRUS, TRUS should be consigned to history, stress levels will increase awaiting results
Why next year what's your situation have you had MRI scan psa? DRE etc
Just got home biopsy not too bad localwearing off so mild pain, couple of glasses of malbec will ease it results on 27th
In Australia a biopsy is normally done under a general anaesthetic and its free in our public hospital system or if you prefer you can have it done under your private health insurance. If you live in a major city it baffles me as to why you would opt to pay for it but even in Australia we have strange attitudes at times. I had it done in a public hospital by my Urologist and no pain, no infection. Sounds barbaric to do it under a local.
All general anasthesic carries a small risk pain was minimal, if done with local more men can be biopsed so must be better for all
I am 67, and just had a transperineal biopsy of the prostate. My suggestion is to go with a general anesthesia. I had a general and do not regret it, nor do I regret selecting the transperineal biopsy. My urologist did a 30 core saturtion biopsy and I suspect that even with a local, that would get uncomfortable eventually.
You should sign in to Youtube and search on the procedure. Look at the ones where there is only a local used. You will be on your back, your legs lifted high in stirrups, and all your glory exposed to 'x' number of nurses and others. Some things are better to be asleep for. Yes, it is survivable but why put yourself through that? Go with a general.
Afterwards, I had no pain what so ever, the shaft of the penis did feel engorged, though it was not, this likely due to the additional lidocaine prostate block that is also done. I also did not need a catheter, which was good.
The transperineal biopsy is far superior to the transrectal, and much safer. But for certain, I would say to ask for general sedation.

I have had two under general and one was no problem, the other I had issues (pasted out 3 times) scared the crap out of my Doctor. The next one they put me out, which I am all good with now. My next one is January 11th. Putting me under again.
