Atypical Cells

Just had a second opinion done on my biopsy slides. Originally diagnosed as Gleeson 6. One of twelve cores at 11% volume. PSA is 1.0. Second opinion is that cells are really "atypical" and not cancer. Have had a clear bone scan. Dr. Still wants me to have a 3T mpMRI in early Feb.

What can anyone tell me about atypical cells in prostate?

Thanks

Darryl: I have been an avid reader of your comments for a couple years now and certainly appreciate same. This reference is quite informative. This chaps case is somewhat similar to mine - Biopsy 4 years ago was 1 of 18 cores positive - PSA 1.0 - GS 6. Another biopsy 2 years ago - 18 cores all negative. PSA has been running 1.0. I am now 82 and am on active surveillance.

curious how you could have one positive then 4 years later its negative . sounds like wrong diagnosis or you took something to kill cancer cells...

It certainly sounds as if your Gleason 6 is low-volume low-grade non-aggressive cancer. I have been on Active Surveillance for Gleason 6 since diagnosis in November 2006.
