Hi I have degenerated disk disease amongst other things for many years, now the last few days im getting a burning pain in my thigh, that worsens when i cough, which throbs, tender to touch and numb, ive read its linked to the disks, or crushed nerves from the spine? Has any one else had this? I've made Drs appointment, but can't get one till the 11th. I'm wondering to go to a walk in center, not that they would do much I know.

Until your appointment yiu could try icing the area. If yiu have back problems like myself, the pain could be altering your gait and your standing and sitting positions. That in turn could be affecting the muscles and tendons in your thigh.

You don't say where in the thigh the pain is occurring.. Round the back and down the leg could be sciatica. Only your GP can diagnose.

Anti inflammatoris if you can tolerate them shoukd help.

It's at the front, it don't feel like sciatica, according to Google if it's worsened by a cough or a sneeze it's either discs or the nerves being compressed in the spine, I've had DDD for over 10 years pluss, never had this before. It get worse as day goes on. I take amitriptyline for back pain, which is quite strong.

I have had a severe herniated disc at L5/S1 level and have been operated on it 3 times. This created severe sciatica down the back and outside of the leg. I have now severe burning and weakness on the top of my thigh till just below my knee, an MRI showed that a disc at the L2/L3 level is crushing the exiting L3 nerve. So this could be your problem or it could be something else. Only an MRI can show this.

Yeah it might be, not been so bad today as I've rested it, just off n on. Not had operations but I've had the injections which didn't do any thing for me. How do you get on with all this in ur spine, it's nice to talk to others that suffer with it.

Uh not so good at times but most of the time I just smile and just thank my lucky stars as it could have been so much worse. This is because I had slow onset cauda equine and if left it could have meant a wheelchair and other issues. It’s the nerve pain that gets to me at times. Injections have been a mixed bag for me, some helped and others not. The facet joint ones did help. Denervation of the SI joint helped too.

I refused any more injections, no point going through all that for nothing in return. Im glad u got it sorted before it was left, I do worry if mine gets worse, what will happen, its a daily struggle. But because no one can see it i look great to others.

How many injections have you had? Have you tried denervation, they helped me the most. I was left with a gammy leg after the first op so use a crutch but other than that people can’t see anything wrong with me. It’s often difficult for people to accept there is something wrong with someone else if they seem fine you are right.

I went in for 2 injections none did any thing, more traumatic going in hosp for it to be done. That's only thing I've had offered. Dont think they can do anything else, its all my lower discs and faucets joints. Just have to get on with it, the burning in my thigh 8s a new symptom.

I suffer from degenerative disease in the spine also.the pain is excruciating. I can’t take Naproxen because of heart problem. I also have pain in the hip s thigh each side down to knees. With nerve pain going down to knee like an electric shock. I take Tramadol and Zapain it helps but Voltarel gel also helps.

Can't take diclofenic, sets my chest off. I've ampytipoline. It does effect the hips, especially if I've done too much, it's different on a daily basics, sometimes can't move at all, that's when it's really flaired up and I take iprobrufen. Most problem I have is bending, i use a helping hand stick which are great.

I was offered denervation of the facet joints at 3 levels which helped a lot (also on the SI joint which was good too). Might be worth looking into

Ask to be referred to a pain specialist as they are the ones doing these.
