The whole story, the truth and nothing but the truth!

I developed Tinnitus mildly I'd say about six months ago but I have always had neck issues, been having massage to relieve aches but now joining up the dots, this seems to be linked to the AN.

Back in November 2022 I took part in a day of scanning of the whole of my body for a research company called BioBank, who I have been associated with since early 20/30's. I though I was helping help others but I'm now thinking WHY?, have I created an issue for myself? I have recently been in contact with them to share the results of these scans with my consultant who I am seeing again on Thursday 8th Feb, which they are reluctant but I believe it's my right. I simply want to see if there was anything there then OR has this suddenly grown and with the Tinnitus which has suddenly appeared in my life, which is now constant?

This might be another stupid question too, but when I was young I stuck tissue in my ears to clean them, which I know is wrong, have I done this damage to myself?

Finally, will a hearing aid help with the Tinnitus?

Thanking you all?

Kindest Regards

Nick Ryan

Hi Joker2768, well there’s a question.. is it better to know or live blissfully unaware !

A brain surgeon who underwent a brain mri scan for research and discovered he had the early signs of dementia once told me ‘ don’t have a brain scab unless you are prepared for the results! ‘. I guess if you are older in years , have few symptoms and the AN is stable ie not growing then it is probably preferable to not know ,however for many having treatment and preventing deterioration is paramount

Don’t panic AN is benign and bio bank have definitely been an asset to you . There are many theories about causes including faulty genes however there is no evidence that you have caused this yourself

Tinnitus can be a nuisance, ask your specialist for help with this , there is lots of info on BANA website also Facebook and this site

The usual protocol is to re scan after 6 months to see if there is any growth if there is not they may rescan again or consider treatment options. There is a size limit for gamma knife, you will need to ask your specialist about this also

Good luck with your appointment
