As a minimum it should stop further growth and damage. In the majority of cases however, it causes the AN to shrink thus relieving many of the symptoms. I had Fractionated Stereotactic Radiosurgery in 1998 and in a few few years the AN shrank to 25% of its original volume. Within a year my balance was back to normal. I lost no more hearing as a result of treatment and 24 years later continue to do well. Similar treatment is usually given using a Cyber Knife machine over 4 to 6 session these days but that hadn't been invented when I was treated.

it is a choice you may choose when you get all the info regarding that or surgery. It was not available in my day.

I'm starting a 5 week course of Fractionated Stereotactic Radiotherapy on 9th Jan. Mon-Fri, 25 short zaps in total. I was offered Translab surgery, but didn't want that. I asked about cyber-knife but was told with that there is more chance of the tumour swelling and causing more problems before it starts shrinking. With the FSR there is less chance of swelling. As bypass says, it will hopefully make the tumour shrink, but at the least should stop it growing further.
