I have had mild, high pitched tinnitus in my ears for several years. 4 weeks ago I started feeling unbalanced and dizzy. Came out of nowhere. And I can feel my heartbeat pulsing in my right ear, especially when lying down. I went to an ENT who prescribed Prednisone for 9 days and meclysine for the dizziness. At the follow up, with no relief of symptoms, he sent me for a contrast/no contrast MRI. It showed a 1.2cm AN in my right ear. I am scheduled to meet with a neurologist and a neuro surgeon in the next two months. My question is, has anyone else experienced the sudden onset of dizziness/unbalance - which is my worst symptom, and did microsurgery or gamma knife or radiation cure this and other symptoms?

Thanks for your post. I have been feeling what I will describe as unsteady at times. Had a diagnosis of 1.2mm in July. Ent a said I need a contrast scan they sent me back to my GP after 4 months to do it. I have had had the scan and have been trying to find out who is going to give me report, ENT say they aren't seeing me again(even though doctor said he would see me again after scan). Beacon medical services group in Northernden totally unable to get past any of the receeptionists. I now have a GP appointment to if they can sort it out.ISorry about long winded none helpful reply, but your post did help me as medication doesn't help. Hope you get on at your appointment ok.

Hi JBBC, balance issues and dizziness is common symptoms of AN. 1.2 cm is small and may be possible to treat with gamma knife. I had a 4.4cm AN which was partially removed by surgery 4 years back. Some symptoms still persists, but can live with it. It's important to get right medical advise and treatment.

many years ago my symptoms of dizziness vomiting and unbalanced. There was not an option then it had to be surgery. I have some residual problems but came out of it very well considering, it was mainly only diagnosed at post Mortimer then. Everything is updated now and it’s usually now your choice to make . Good luck x

I was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma about four years ago, the main symptom being hearing loss in right ear (no dizziness/unbalance). Then, acutely, I had a sudden bout of vertigo six months ago. Emergency room; appointment with ENT; balance testing.

I have been left with a baseline dizziness. The ENT says it may be the AN or it may be a virus that attacked the vestibular nerve. Was sent for vestibular rehab, which may have helped somewhat. The dizziness is constant, and I suppose I am learning to live with it. I sometimes use a cane when walking to help with my balance. I have given up riding my bike and bought a bicycle with three wheels.

I am sorry you are experiencing similar issues.
