I have just been referred for a scan for suspected AN (something I had never heard of until last week). Does anyone have advice on questions they wish they'd asked at the time of the scan but didn't think of until too late??

AN...scan due
Hi, understand it must be a worrying time, it’s always good to talk, so most people in this group will have been through the same and will be able to help. I would start with some basic questions (if it is an AN?). The size and position are important, this may dictate the options, it may be watch and wait if it is small, if they need to operate it may be gamma knife which is non invasive surgery that’s hits the tumor with a dose of radiation to kill it. This is a common approach. The consultants will discuss all the options. Ask about possible side effects? ( are you experiencing any at the moment?). Typically the Tumors are benign but ask, so cancer should not be the issue. Hope this helps, feel free to ask specific questions.
I would agree with all that Leodo has said. Stay as calm and relaxed as you can, and save your questions for the meeting with your consultant when the scan results have been studied. I'd take someone you trust with you, to help remember all that is said and talk through the options, and jot things down - there's so much information and this early few weeks can be unsettling and a shock. All the best!
