Has anyone ever reverted to a previous long-term anti-depressant after trying something else?

I have suffered from depression for as long as I can remember but only realised when it was diagnosed 11 years ago. I took Venlafaxine for 9 years and it changed my life. However, towards the end the effects seem to be wearing off and a lot of my old feelings started creeping back in to the point where I couldn't cope with a bad spell. I changed to Citalopram but after 18 months this just isn't working. I am now lower than ever and don't know what to do. I have started counselling but need additional help just to help me get out of bed in the morning. I was wondering if going back to the Venlafaxine is a possibility. Has anyone got any experience with this?

Hello there, I no this is probably too late now as I've just joined this, I've been on velafaxine for about ten yes now and I too have had the old symptoms creep back in and before u no it yr back where u were before u started yr medication. Chances are that yr medication is no longer working. Go to yr GP they should be able to try u on an other antidepressant, I have been on more than eleven different ones before my GP found a antidepressant that was suitable for me. You need to keep at yr doctors until yr satisfied with the end results. ;-)
