I am due to have a hysterectomy and bowel repair in April been waiting 18 months because of a grade 4 prolapse

Nobody has talked me through the recovery only to say one night in hospital and you will be up walking the same day.

Any hints and advice greatly appreciated.

I’m 5 weeks post abdominal hysterectomy and it’s not been easy. How you get on depends on the how the op is being done, vaginal and laparoscopic ops are said to be a bit easier than abdominal.

They do want you up and about very quickly and the trend is to send you home asap but I think 1 night in hospital is pushing it. I was in 4 days and would happily have stayed longer.

At home you need to take it very easy and do absolutely nothing to start with, definitely no lifting anything heavier than a kettle. The hospital should have given you information on recovery and possible complications to watch out for but if not it’s all online, hopefully a physio will see you before you leave to explain the exercises you have to do.

Good luck and don’t try to do things to soon !

It’s likely ..that more information and advice will be given nearer the time. You could speak to your GP in the meantime.

there is a lot of info on line !!! You will be up and walking the next day … just carefully! There is a good American woman on line called the Vagina Coach … she talks you through her rectocele recovery ! Very informative . Here they take the packing out at home .. so there are differences ! Good luck

Hi. There are 2 very good groups on Facebook for women with prolapse. So very nice supportive and helpful. You can ask your question there and shd be women who can help explain how they prepared for ops etc. (Im trying put off surgery as long as I can so cant help there sorry.)

Someone on here recommended the groups to me and theyre amazing.

Can post anonymously if u like too.

They are -

PESSARIES AND PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE

FPOPS UK (FEMALE PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE SUPPORT FOR UK)

I hope this can be of help and support to you. Good luck with your op and wish u a good recovery.

There’s a website called Hystersisters which has loads of info and experiences, I found it very useful to hear from women who are going through it.
