I did it again----- I skipped the Weights yesterday and did Cardio :(/
And now I am going to run-- but after my run I am doing weights! Bicep- Tricep- Shoulder Presses- Shoulder lifts- push ups and plank- I'm promising---- please gold me to it!!!!!
uggghhhhh----I'm sorry- it didn't happen. I did do 3 miles and 20 minutes yoga/stretching, then went to get a sports therapy massage.
Do you see what I mean----EVEN promising to do it- I failed. I said to myself....Do it after the therapy, when I'm relaxed. Then after the therapy I said, it would just undo the benefits if I did a workout now. I don't understand why I do this-----I really don't.
I was telling DoctoredtoDeath that I just don't understand why I can not bring myself to do this. He thinks, and I agree, there is something mentally happening that even I don't understand. I have willpower, focus and motivation, more than the average person. Ran everyday for the entire year in 2011- at least 1 consecutive mile daily and at the end of the year had completed multiple half marathons, a full marathon, many 5 & 10k's and an average of 3.2 miles a day. rain-shine-snow-hail-heat- flu-aches-pain- nothing stopped me. But with weight training------I find any excuse not to do it.
Thank You. Doing great Cardio- Wish I could easily transfer that willpower and desire to weight training. My motivation is health and age related. Health because I know weight training makes you stronger and changes the way your muscles look and feel. Age because if I don't start now- it'll be harder and harder to build on the little muscle I have. muscle loss will continue to happen as I age at a more and more rapid rate the older I get. It's science and just part of the aging process.
Doing nothing is the worst thing I can do....so I need to get a handle on this. Changing is sometimes easy but can also be very difficult. That's where I am at. I think maybe I am struggling with the fact that I "have" to do this-
I did work out yesterday. Upper- Bicep Tricep Chest Shoulders Back
My two Joyce Verdel books arrived (at your age Joel, you for sure do not know who she is- but she was my age now, when she did her books) and bought a Marcy Workout Bench
In the past week and a half, I have made some progress. My 2 Joyce Verdel books arrived and armed with my Marcy Work out Bench, I've completed 4 consistent- (every other day) upper body workouts. I'm successfully on week 2!
I've completed 4 workouts and I feel really good. So far, I am only training upper body following her program. Bicep-Tricep-Chest-Shoulders- Back.
As for my legs/lower bod, I am covering it with runs and elevation hiking. Although I know at some point I need to incorporate Lower Body weight workouts as well- but to start, I need to focus on upper, and not take away my love which is cardio. In my mind it all makes sense and I think I'm on a good track for now.
Looking to get back in the gym. Started back after 6 months off , concentrating on amount of weight moved as opposed to number of sets and reps
I no longer count the number of sets. I find that by setting limitations on the number of reps done per set I would then lend more time between sets than was necessary. What I do is have a stop watch and a note book. My stop watch is set for 2 minutes. I will then give myself a number reps per exercise. For example lat pillows. I will give myself 2 minutes to do 40 reps. So I will start of with something like 15 reps until failure then let the weight descend take a breath and do as many reps as I can until I can't. And I keep going until the 2 minutes are up. The pump and results from this sort of training are incredible as every minute you are in the gym is utilized. As for my having taken 6 months off as you can read in my posts from the other communities I have 3 children and it became a time issue.
Just joined about a week ago. Fired up in the gym for seems like the past two months. Trying to lose weight and gain muscle at 52 years old. Time to shed the old, and put on the new....
