Hi fellow dieters, I'm looking for ide... - Weight Loss Support
Hi fellow dieters, I'm looking for ideas for "good" snacks for that tricky time after finishing work and eating dinner...thank you!
I've acquired a taste for an Italian-inspired plate that isn't high in calories, but is filling. I take thick slices of tomato and put a little goat cheese on top. Then I pour just a little of a sauce on top: equal parts olive oil, balsamic vinegar and dried basil. I usually make about 5 "tomato steaks" per snack. It's about 120 calories, depending on how much cheese you use. Hope it helps!
I just tried this after being ravenous after work but having to wait for my partner to come home for dinner. I went for brie with fresh basil leaves. Brie was the only cheese I had and was a bit tasteless so will go for a stronger one next time but overall it was great! lovely jubbly. Thanks!
Hi rosierosie.
I decided that I really must do something about my weight so yesterday was day 1 of my new healthy eathing plan. Everything went well during the day but when I got home after work I started to panic as I was really hungry and thought I might binge, anyway, I put a few baby tomatoes on a plate and chopped up a Babybel light cheese, covered it in pepper and it was lovely, the peppery taste lasted for ages so I did not feel like hitting the biscuit barrel. In the past I have stir fried mushrooms (in fry light) and had them with a little soy sauce. Both these choices helped me to survive till our eveing meal. Hope this helps x
Hi rosie rosie,
You could try any of the following - for me I tend to have a late snack at work of fruit so I don't have one at home where there's more temptation!
> Banana (70-120 cals depending on size)
> 1 piece of toast and jam (cals depend heavily on the bread so just double check the content)
> 2/3 rich tea (34 cals each)
> Apple (~75 cals - depends on type of apple)
> Raisins, snack size box (44 cals per box)
> Nature Valley Bar (198 per pack which is 2 slices. This is high for a snack but if you are really hungry or are doing exercise they will fuel you with some good energy. Or just have one of the bars and leave the other for the next day.)
There's also a page on the NHS site about snacking and week 4 of the NHS plan concentrates on snacking.
Hi bundlebeaz,
Just because you open a bar, it doesn't mean you have to have it all in one sitting!
When I'm out and about in the car, I use an Atkins bar (reasonbly low calories and high protein) and have a bit of it at one place, a bit more later, and perhaps finish it off on a third place.
I do lite Digestive - 2 biscuits with a cup of tea. But then, not really 2, because the dog eats some.
I like to have a fruit and nut snack mid afternoon - an orange, half an apple, 3 Brazil nuts, 5 almonds, and 2 walnut halves. Filling, tasty and tides me over till my evening meal.
Hi Folks,
Now there may just be a bit of science in this one. (But I'll leave that aspect of it to others in case it turns out to be complete urban myth).
Anyhow, depending on how it works for you, when you get home, put a couple of teaspoons of Apple Cider vinegar into a glass. Now, if like me you think it tastes disgusting, then you're clearly not going to drink it neat and, like me, you'll probably put a glug of fruit juice into it.
I'm inclined to do that and then get on with doing other things until I'm ready to have the evening meal.
A bit like the pepper thing mentioned above, it seems to kind of skate your hunger and take away that 'I fancy something sweet' thing.
Hi,
My afternoon snack...a couple of Ryvita Dark Rye or Jacobs black pepper flatbreads with reduced fat peanut butter (surpisingly tasty and don't need too much peanut butter for taste) followed by a couple of clementines....carb, protien & fruit.
Happy healthy eating!
Hi innerslim,
I also have a jar of cashew butter which I use very sparingly and which I'm quite fond of. (The dog is quite fond of it too!)
Hi there,
Fruit is a really good snack to have after work but I got told that I eat too much as even though it's good it's still quite high in sugar (albeit natural sugar and far better for you that the processed stuff) so I switched to veg sticks (celery, cucumber, carrot, pepper etc) with some homemade houmous or guacamole.
Very yummy and the kids love it too.

i have a tub of cherry tomatoes in the fridge to snack on but am finding im no longer in snacking mood tbh as im stuffed constantly these days im doing about 3-400 calories for breakfast and the rest of the day i feel as though im eating because i know i should not because im hungry i start the day now with natural yoghurt and granola and eating multiseed mix from lidl and raisins too water is also a good friend to fill yourself up drink a bottle on route home keep extra water in the car of like me a case of diet 7up in the boot
I found Kale amazing. Wash it in a large bowl of water and I pull off the fat stalky bits not all of them, then sprinkle some salt (optional candarel) and tiny sprinkling of olive oil and straight in the hot oven, turn it every few mins for about 10 mins in total you are left with crunchy crispy seaweed....... mmmmmmmmm dieters delight.
I have frozen banana slices or frozen grapes. They take longer to eat and taste lovely especially in summer.
I tend to snack on fruit, seeds and nuts and bio yoghurt.A few strawberries and seeds in a glass of bio yoghurt does the trick for me.
