Good morning gmustafa and welcome to the forum 😊

Many people would say you need to go cold turkey and just cut out the sweets. The problem is they work on your body to increase cravings so it's not just about willpower, it the natural response of your body to want more.

A good way to start here would be joining the Saturday weigh in team. You'll get to know a very supportive bunch of people who will appreciate your support, too. Here's the link. If you read the opening post, it will explain all healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

You'll find a list of all the forum activities here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

..... and this Newbie pack will help you find your way around healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

We also ask that you read this information about internet privacy and security healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

I see your post isn't locked. This means that it, and any replies, can be shared around the Internet without your knowledge or consent (see the Twitter and Facebook logos below your post). Often that won't matter to you but sometimes people discuss personal stuff or accidentally disclose something that might identify them so we think it's a good extra level of security to lock your posts. :)

Wishing you all the best and I hope you become an active and supportive member of the forum 😊

Go back to your post above and click on the v next to More, then choose Edit. It will reopen your post. Go to the end and choose Only community members instead of Anyone. That will make your post only available to people in this forum.

All the more important if you are using a name or photo that may identify you :)

Don't buy them! :D Seriously, if you eat a planned healthy diet within your calorie range you won't feel hungry and the craving will soon recede, when I started out if I felt the urge I would have a piece of fruit or a few grapes hadn't eaten chocolate for months until this week, not impressed, way too sweet apart from the high cocoa Nomnom mincepie flavoured bar which I will finish 1 square a day as a treat.

This is good advice -I don't buy the junk food that I most crave apart from every now and then. If my family buy it, they hide it from me as I have asked them to. It took a while for the cravings to stop, but they finally have stopped pretty much. So try not to have the sweets at home and it will make a difference.

Hi, Barcud

I have not bought sweets or ice cream for many months... But I occasionally win sweets in raffles, so, even before Christmas, I had thousands of calories of sweets in my fridge... and my step-daughter (who is as lean as a barrel of lard) gave me a "goodie" bag of sweets, biscuits etc. for Christmas.

An open box of sweet tends to soon be empty... so trying to eat just one sweet on days when I am below my target weight for the week might not work.

The theory is that I will be at my maintenance weight in three months... so, perhaps I will eat them then.

Mustafa , to curb your sweets appetite, I suggest cutting out gluten w white flour, potatoes, really any white foods that are starchy. At the same time your must increase your nutrient dense foods like fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, needs etc. This will help decrease your sweets addiction

Hello! I shared your addiction for years, eating at least two bars of chocky a day and guzzling from bags of sweeties in many places BUT my Main Negative Trigger Point was telly-watching. I ate sweets watching tv all my life, starting with childhood, and that's a heck of a long time ago, when most sweeties came from quarter-pound bags of naughties like nut brittle, lemon sherberts etc etc. So I understand your addiction from old experience.

Not having them in the house is great if you only have to think of yourself. Otherwise go for some replacements when The Urge Calls. I find a medium sized plate of good medjoul dates with some chunks of cheddar cheese is a really good snack which gives you some sweetness, some savoury, chewing satisfaction and takes a while to eat, and this is important to our sensory satisfaction!

If you stick with it the craving really does recede, promise. All Power to You in your Endeavours to fight your way out of the Sugar Trap!
