This is one variation of intermittent fasting - here's a useful link from dietdoctor which explains the concept and practice:

Many of of use this form of eating Johnny. I usually stop eating by 7.30pm and then don't start again until 11.30am or later in fact.

Doing 16/8 doesn't mean you eat less calories, you should still consume the same amount in a day, it helps the insulin level to drop to base line and encourages the body to burn fat. You can drink water, tea, coffee during the fast time.

Yes I do this quite often if my schedule allows. It's actually quite an easy way to control my intake on 2-3 days midweek and I still eat my full maintenance calories over the week as a whole.

Hi Johnnylewis Yes, doing it everyday. It's easy to do it between dinner and lunch the next day :) Good Luck!

I fast 20/24 most days.

I was cold and hungry yesterday evening, and I was a pound below my target weight, so I had a Stilton and rice cake snack ...but, almost every day, I eat breakfast after 10:00, have a fruit snack before 14:00 and then eat nothing till breakfast.

It saves money, it saves time, and it works.

I started by letting my appetite adjust to my requirements for twenty years after I was fit, was exercising and needed to eat.

...and I usually did not eat after 19:00.

Then, gradually, I brought my evening snack forward to 14:00.

If you fast for a portion of the day, you still need to eat enough.

You do not need to go straight to 16/24 or 20/24 fasting, you can gradually narrow the time-slot.

I am still doing OK, thanks.

I weigh-in on Wednesdays, so, after about 22:00 this evening, you can read my weekly weigh-in report.

Most of the videos on YouTube do not tell you much, but this explains why fasting for 16 hours or more is better than shorter fasts:
