Hi Porter, welcome! I have no idea what iih is symptom-wise but hope it doesn't cause too much pain, or maybe it does hence the wish to reduce weight and stress on vertebrae?
Anyway, I would encourage you to do the NHS BMI calculator to begin with. This gives you a calorie range needed in order to lose weight and the advice is to aim for the higher end of the range. I must admit, calorie counting isn't my favourite task so I just keep a general check and a rough count and reduce portion size, add lots of vegetables and fruit to keep my stomach fuller, reduce carbs (bread, potatoes - substitute sweet potato if you like them, switch rice to whole grain etc). Keep up your meat/cheese/eggs/soy substitute/lentil intake too, there's probably guidance on that somewhere on the NHS website. You can do this!! Good wishes.
