Cake temptation technique.....

Hi All

This weekend we went to a beautiful mill house with grounds and a tea tent!!

When we entered the tent i knew it was going to be a tough one. The cakes were all huge and calorie laden and looked amazing. I knew there was no light option and all were around the 1000 calorie mark. We went with friends and this wretched tent was the 'highlight' of the day for them. As we joined the queue i knew if i had one I would feel grumpy as I actually did not feel hungry. As I have chosen to do this without telling everyone i decided not to panic and simply ordered a tea. There was a lot of discussion about why on earth would you not have a piece...from several people in the queue who i didn't even know. It came home to me how much pressure there is to conform but at least I avoided the diet discussion. Actually I imagined the cakes put in a blender and the separated layers of fat and sugar.....worked a treat ....then I imagined a piece stuck on my hips!! Thought this might help others with this type of situation.😊

Thank you......it felt good to make an active choice but realised how much we are influenced by others.

To my way of thinking, it's the same as someone offering me a cigarette, to which I'd reply, "No thanks, I don't smoke". Nobody would question my choice, so why, when I say "No thanks, I don't eat cake", do people carry on as if I'd said, "No thanks, I don't breathe"??

Very true!

Why do people accept a no i dont smoke but look at you as if youre an alien if you say no to cake or chocolate? 😂

That's a great strategy Wobbleless ~similar to mine when I gave up smoking, thought of something repulsive every time I saw or smelled someone smoking..... it's like reconditioning the mind, I'm going to try it for sweet things now. Thank you for sharing 😊 And yes you're right about what's expected of us in certain situations and how we conform without thinking it through a lot of the time.

Well done Wobbleless I love sitting with my drink totting up how many calories are being consumed around me - with a smug smile on my face!

Made me laugh so I shall tell you one of other strategies....I look at all the people who do not need cake (me included) and think nooooo.....just don’t do it you know where it’s going 😝

Oh well done on resisting, and that is a good technique to remember!

I tend to say that I am trying to eat less sugar, which is true, rather than trying to lose weight. It's perhaps harder for them to say 'one slice won't hurt' then.

Of course then depending of the setting, people may try to force calorie laden savouries onto you :D

It seems to work with sugar though.

That's a good approach, too. Lily59 :)

I like the thinking....I have noticed that when I say no thank you it some how spoils it for others which is a shame....think a bit of guilt pops up😊

Huge well done, I love the imagery, whisked in a blender and seperated into fat and sugar, I've just added gloopy gluten dripping down the inside. Perhaps a photo shoot is called for like the sack of dog food! I'm not a huge alchohol fan and when asked in pubs if I would like a drink I'd say yes please 'Orange and lemonade' I lost count of the number of times I was told 'have a proper drink you don't want that', I would bluntly tell them they had asked what I would like to drink and that is what I would like and if they didn't mean what they'd said I'd buy my own! Perhaps I have mellowed and will politely decline.

I once saw it done for real with fish and chips....it was awful. Loving gloopy gluten....will add that to my yuk dictionary🤭

Hi, Wobbleless

I order soup without a roll, and all day breakfasts without toast, and I can sit at a table laden with sandwiches and cakes (without being tempted)... but, last week, they got the order wrong, and my soup turned up with a lovely roll and lots of proper butter... My gluten intolerance gave me a distended abdomen... but I am still at my target weight for the week.

That is a great image of cakes!

I have friends who know I am now diabetic, and that I went for diet-controlled instead of drugs, but who keep pushing food at me - yes carrots are healthy, as are tomatoes, and hummus is nice, but they all contain sugar and I have restrict how much of these I eat.

As for grapes, so nice and sweet, do they ever wonder why?

It is odd that when I ate what I wanted people were so disapproving - fat people shouldn't eat - well I'm still obese yet now they push extra food at me.

Oh gosh what are we to do? Don’t eat and we ruin it for others...eat and we don’t help ourselves. I do feel for you sugar is hidden in so much now, even things we think of as healthy. I hope you are able to control things with diet that would be a great achievement.

So far all the indications are that my diabetes is in remission, without drugs. It helps me be really tough with the tempters.

I'm on diabetes.uk's lowcarbprogram.

And for dinner tonight I had liver, bacon, onions

followed by an UGGFoods coconut chia muffin (no added sugar, low carb)

then I checked on my veg intake and ate some lettuce.
