Hi I have started this week but I am struggling to know if I should count fruit and vegetables calories. I'm used to other diets where this is eaten in unlimited amounts. How do people count calories for fruit and vegetables. I really don't see me weighing my broccoli any time soon! Thanks

Fruit and vegetable calories....do they Matter?
Hi. I don't think calories in most veg count but sweet potato and butternut squash have more sugar so they do add up. Fruit is worth looking at as sugar is high. Good luck ππππ πΆπ½π₯ππ₯π
I agree with EllaMidlands . I've started having fruit smoothies for breakfast so for the first week I calculated the calories and made a mental note of what it looked like in the blender. Now I just chuck the fruit in until it looks about right. Veg I don't worry about at all. I think sweet potatoes count as carbs but are lower calorie than regular potatoes so as long as I'm not eating bigger portions I know it's a saving. I guess I'm taking quite a relaxed attitude to calorie counting but it seems to be working.
I don't count vegetables or salad but do count fruit. π
But this isn't a diet sam1974 it is a forum full of people changing their lifestyles in the way that suits them. The support and motivational encouragement are incredible but no one will tell you what to do, they may tellshare with you what they do.
Plenty of people count calories, and yes some will do it so fastidiously that broccoli will be counted too. Only you can decide if it matters for you or not. Since fruit and veg are foods I don't understand why you wouldn't count the calories in them if you could other calories, they are, after all part of your intake.
Hope you enjoy your weight loss journey.
I guess this forum is whatever I want it to be and what suits me too. I'm sorry if you don't understand my post and why I was asking about calories in fruit and vegetables. I thought I made it clear as previous diets I have followed did not count fruit and vegetables so I guess I just want the benefit of experience of those who have lost weight and I have received some valuable advice. Anyhow, thanks for your contribution.
Thank you all for your advice. I think I will stick to the lower end of my calorie allowance as per the BMI calculator and give fruit and veg a calorie allowance without weighing them!
Yeah. I count them but don't weigh them. I guesstimate! I use the fitbit app and it let's me put it in as cupfuls so I guess in cupfuls. No weighing.
Hi Sam1974
Yes the calories still add up. Fruit more than Veg. Just finished the 12 week and Lost3 stone.

Phil62 Good Luck
Wow! That is an amazing loss Phil62 well done, you must be immensely proud.
I use the NHS calorie checker for all my food. I do count fruit and veg but I don't weigh the portion size. At first when I started I was eating more fruit than veg but now most days its similar. I just have smaller portions of things like sweet potatoes and larger portions of things like celery and spinach
I am one of these weird folk that weighs my veg! Partly so I know I'm having at least 70g to count as one of my five a day, but actually peas and sweetcorn are also higher in calories than say broccoli.
I try to make sure I have weighed most of fruit like grapes for my portion size but I don't do it with everything. I mainly do it with higher calorie items. Otherwise I don't bother but count all of it in my calorie amounts even if I don't weigh it.
