my new years resolution was to loose 2 stone in weight was 12 st when I started now 6 weeks in I have lost nearly 9lb. I am in my early 60's stopped working nearly 2 years ago, I spend a lot of my time walking my 2 golden retriever dogs Ellie and William. what made me put the weight on was last summer I broke my leg and had 12 weeks with very little activity. I am following the NHS Choices plan , which is easy to follow with lots of good advice. I have been watching a lot of television programmes on the subject. what I am doing is eating a lot of fruit and veg, cutting down on sugar and alcohol. and I am getting more active. already I feel better and have more energy

Well done on losing almost 9lbs! Whatever you are doing, it seems to be working! The extra energy will benefit the dogs too, as you will be able to walk them further and uphill more if you feel fit.

I know how easy it is to slip back into bad habits though - I have had a couple of weeks with a painful hip and my exercise has dropped and comfort eating increased which has led to a backwards step. My little Terrier x has gained weight too..... I keep reminding myself that this healthy eating has to be for life!

Sorry to hear about your hip and the comfort eating. The cold weather probably hasnt helped either. Don't lose heart, spring is around the corner and you'll get back on track in no time!

Well done.

I have a golden retriever they are great dogs.

High and welcome, suige :)

Well done for getting off to a flying start, you must feel great! :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hey well done that's fantastic. Keep it up. I bet your dogs are enjoying their long walkies :) x

I was in the same boat as you suige. Retired three years ago, ruptured two discs in my back last summer, took nearly six months to recover and my dog (14 year old Border Collie) and I put on weight! Working on getting it off again now.

Well done that's great progress so far. About 1 pound a week is a sensible steady rate, which you are far more likely to keep off.

I'm 64 and 3 years ago was 2st overweight too. But I lost it in 2015 and kept it off ever since. I do still watch what I eat, but I eat what I want, if you see what I mean!

Not what you're looking for?
