I was wondering if there is anybody out that is in the same position as me so that I can follow you to see your progression. I am a fairly active 67 year old. No health problems apart from a dodgy knee. I go to the gym 3 times a week and Zumba every Saturday. Try to eat fairly well but stray quite easily. I am 5ft 7ins and 12 stone 9 lbs and my ideal weight would be 11 stone or even less if I can stick it out. The weight has creep on over a few years so I would like to try and lose it so that I am a bit lighter next year

I like your positive sounding name "Goingtodoit"....

You are a similar height to me - I am 5ft 7 (age 61) and weighing in a 12st 5lbs....and have been around that weight for the last month! I feel well, but would be a lot healthier if I could lose that last stone. Target weight is 11st 7lbs as I have large bones; but most of my adult life I have been over 12stones, so my difficulty is believing I can actually be that size.

We shall have to go and find or buy some smaller clothes to inspire us to keep on the straight and narrow...

Hi there, thought it would be good to team up with someone the same as me as I am sure it's more difficult when you get older. I only started my diet/healthy eating on Monday so it's still new and I am worried in case I waiver. Good luck with your goal. I did manage to get down to 11 stone 4 lb five years ago but the will power has not been very strong since.

Hi there. I am 69, almost 70 in fact. 3 years ago I was an active 67 year old and also about 2 stone overweight. After years of trying to lose weight without success. I am smaller than you at just over 5ft so at just over 11st my BMI was almost 30. I now weigh 8st 12,lb after following Michael Mosely's 5:2 diet. I read his book "The Fast Diet" and found it was a doable plan for me. I had always thought being small made it more difficult to lose weight as well as being older. I was proved wrong on both counts. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

Thanks Pamton, well done losing that amount of weight. I have heard of that book so will have to look into that one. I suppose also the challenge is to keep it off once you reach your goal. Thanks for your good wishes.

I was amazed at how the weight fell off when I started the 5:2. I actually started it to lower my triglyceride levels as this was mentioned in the book and I had been told by my doctor to reduce mine. I succeeded in reducing the levels from 6.8 to 0.9 in 3 months and have kept them down. I am hoping to lose a few more pounds but am not too bad as I am now. I am staying with the plan to keep the weight off.
