I've seen lots of posts discussing the above and recommending people don't eat less because their body will go into starvation mode, they'll find it difficult to maintain once they have lost weight etc. My question is has anyone been successful when eating well under, and if so how much under were they?

Eating below recommended calories
Hello, yes thats how I lost my 6st in weight my calorie intake rarely went over 1000 cals a day. It took me 18 months and now I only have a stone a lose and im really sturuggling because I cannot cut my calorie intake or I wont function and im doing intense 2 hrs exersices sessions 4 times a week. But im not putting any on, but not loosing like I would like either. So in all fairness I wouldnt recommend it, I wish I would of found the nhs 12 week plan before I started and I could have done it properly!
Good Luck
Hi Essex2067,
I know you've seen lots of posts discussing the issue of calorie totals etc, but I thought this thread might be helpful - particularly the comment towards the end by someone who was at that time a 'Volunteer' (although the name of the person is 'hidden' as they must have left the site subsequently. The points they made seemed quite helpful, I thought.
Particularly important was the comment that Very Low Calorie Diets shouldn't be attempted unless under Medical Supervision.
Also, you might find it interesting to look at past posts by Gingernut49, as she used the 5:2 diet, and therefore often had fasting days in her week where she only ate 500 calories on those 2 days, but people eat more on the other days.
I can't specifically respond to your actual question from my own personal experience, as I have usually eaten quite a few calories daily - i.e. tending to eat towards the upper end of the recommended window of calories rather than the lower.
Here's the thread I saw which also discusses the issue you are raising:

Hope you have a great week.

I don't know if it helps but I have always lost fastest if I can just hit the recommended daily and weekly totals. Something about being just on the right side of the total, seems to help me best. If I go too low, I can't necessarily keep it up without being hungry and therefore tempted by those foods that don't help! I also lose my ability to eat portion sizes and start sneaking extras. Of course you might not be such a hungry person as I am.
