Welcome, I hope you find what you need in this community. Start by dowloading an app on your phone to kep track of calories (Fat Secret, My Fitness Pal...), it's a great aid! Good luck!

Hey welcome to the group, its a great forum. I would recommend starting by looking up the nhs 12 week plan, and downloading a calorie counting app like myfitnesspal. This forum will hopefully bring you all the support and inspiration it has given me :)

Welcome Maureen, I have started today as well... I need to lose 20 kg. I was thinking of following the nhs 12 week plan which recommends eating about 1400 calories a day but have already eaten about 1000 calories' worth today so am now thinking of fasting tomorrow...5:2 diet...where you fast 2 days of the week and consume only 500 calories on those two days. Let's see how that goes. All the best to you and let us know how you get along.

Welcome Maureen, I second the other comments go to nhs.uk/livewell/weight-loss... and download the NHS plan, it's a great introduction to Healthy Eating and will start you off losing weight.

Hi Maureen, Welcome to the forum, you have certainly come to the right place for motivation and support! It seems like everyone has already given the best advice to start you off, the NHS plan has lots of info to keep you on track and an app to count calories is great at keeping you mindful of what you're eating and portion sizes! Good luck! And I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on! 🌸

Hi Maureen and welcome, not much I can add to the previous advice. I started a week ago and I've found the 12 week plan helpful. I've been planning meals and counting calories in each meal so I can ensure I stay within the allowance, it's surprising how quickly the calories add up so by keeping a note throughout the day means I wont get a big shock when I add them up at the end of the day. Good Luck and hope week 1 goes well for you.
